2012 Civic Trust of SA Awards – Commendation
The project involved the development of over 2000sqm. of open space into paved and landscaped areas suitable for a variety of purposes including open air performances and markets. Inspiration was taken from the visual form of hillside townships in Italy to create a series of multi levelled seating, steps and shade structures using robust materials common the both rural and urban areas. An existing heritage building was carefully incorporated and highlighted in the design. The project involved close liaison with the local steering committee and donated time towards the creation and co-ordination of various artistic installations that form part of the space.
